13 - Ring-Billed Gulls in parking lotsPrior to the invention of large, asphalt covered parking lots the Ring-Billed Gull (Larus delawarensis) rested and slept on sandbars where they could see any potential predator coming from a long way off. And while large mall-type parking lots are a far cry from their traditional sandbar they seem to fill the bill (no pun intended) for the gulls since they gain the same advantage in this new location. Just another example of wildlife adapting to a human altered landscape. Offsite Links:
